Poti port – the largest port in the eastern part of the Black Sea, is a key point of the Trans-Caucasus corridor and a connecting link for cargo transportation to Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia. The capacity of the terminal for transshipment of bulk cargo in Poti port is currently 2 million tons / year. The port is equipped with 15 berths with a depth of 16 m. The total length of the berths is 2.9 thousand meters. There are more than 20 shore cranes operating in the port.
In 2018, IMPLogistic organized the transportation of coal by rail from the Kuzbass stations (Yerunakovo, Latvia) to the Poti port with further shipment by sea for export. It should be noted that shipments of Russian coal through Georgian ports have not been carried out since the collapse of the Soviet Union.
The consignor is the company «AO» «UK «Kuzbassrazrezugol» operating under a contract of freight forwarding services with LLC «PTLK».
In the summer of 2018, 20 thousand tons of «D» and «SS» grade coal were exported from the Kuzbass stations on this route in a pilot mode. Since 2019, the volume of coal transportation is about 150 thousand tons / month.
Export of Kuzbass coal via Poti is a new logistics route. The favorable geographical location of the port, facilities and the possibility of transshipment in the future up to 5 million tons / year, can be considered as a new growth point for Russian coal exports to Turkey and the countries of the Mediterranean basin based on conditions of overloaded domestic port infrastructure and the lack of transshipment facilities experienced by exporters.
